We know we’ve been talking about these “meme” things a lot lately, but we have a good reason this time! We made one! We don’t work in a conventional office, to say the least, so we figured that this meme would be fully appropriate to finally explain our jobs to people. It’s not all arcade games and Foosball (although it is sometimes), or wearing shirts and ties, or having corporate meetings, or sticking our thumbs up our noses. No. It’s a combination of all of the above, which ultimately leads to the most frequent and true of them all…brainsplosion.

Possibly one of the most loved/hated days to grace the calendar, Valentine’s day invokes a turbulent mix of emotions in people, whether it be out of love, jealousy, self-pity, or an arsenal of other negative emotions. The unfortunate part about Valentine’s day is that it would appear to be more of an “I’m single and hate it” holiday rather than a celebration of love and relationships, whether it be with a significant other, family, dear friends, etc. The dreadful cloud that lingers above peoples’ heads on this day is something that needs to be cured, so we have compiled a few different Valentine’s day pick-me-uppers to help you through this hard day…or to make this special day even a bit more special.

Android Valentine’s day apps..because who doesn’t like new apps, right?! This collection of 12 apps are actually pretty broad-spectrum and include some fun ones like Open Table, a dinner reservation app, Valentine’s Day Fun Facts, and even an Ambient Fireplace app. A random collection that’s sure to include some apps for couples and singles alike. Click the link to view the whole list:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/249730/android_love_12_free_apps_for_valentines_day.html#tk.hp_new

For the couples: Should any of you be so lucky as to be popping/being asked “the big question” be sure to check out a new niche website focused around weddings and marriage called lover.ly. Being compared to Pinterest, lover.ly is said to be a very cohesive unit focused around sharing ideas to make your special day as magical as possible. Click HERE to read more about lover.ly.

For the singles: Are you wondering why you can’t find the right partner? Wondering what you can to do make a change that will cause potential matches to flock to you? Turns out that a recent survey indicated that owning your own place may in fact be this missing puzzle piece. According to the survey, only 2% of women and 3% of men would prefer to date somebody renting than who owned their place…a pretty big margin in favour of ownership! 62% of both women and men also said they preferred to date somebody who lived alone, regardless of renting or owning. Lastly, for the boomerang generation out there, less than 5% surveyed said they would date somebody who lived with their parents. Obviously there will always be exceptions when meeting new potential dates, however maybe moving out of your parents place and into your own, or possibly ditching your roommate may in fact improve your situation.

Fun Fact: The title of this post (<3) is actually a member of the Oxford Dictionary’s repertoire, including OMG, LOL, and FYI.

We had to write about this because our social media outlets are exploding with every clever phrase, picture, spelling mistake …

We had to write about this because our social media outlets are exploding with every <del>clever</del> phrase, picture, spelling mistake that makes it way on the internets. Seems to be the way the online community has banded together once again, Facebook pages devoted to memes, or trending topics that make absolutely no sense to anyone who doesn’t get the joke.

Memes seem to be the main distractor on the web these days, and although we make of people for getting sucked into the hype, we’re offenders too (some of us more than others). So yes, we have gathered around a mutual affinity for the bi-winning phenomenon, and Rebecca Black’s earblood-letting song was played on a loop in the office. And now it’s “Good gracious, this cheeky cat is quoting Star Trek!” What’s life without whimsy?

This brings us to other news, which is probably only interesting to us Atomic Fifty-Fivers. The arcade machine is finally fixed, after months of waiting for some part – addressed to the wrong person we might add. Now if you want to know about our priorities don’t go basing it on the fact that everyone dropped everything (including our jaws) and made a beeline to the machine that once began humming and beeping to the familiar sounds we dearly missed. Now if this is the first time you’re getting to know us, yeah we’re <del>geeks</del> we have an arcade machine. Gives out the whole Mountain View, California Google office vibe, no? Now aside from trying to misassign our possession of a vintage game to give us the same status as the GOOG, it really helps keep us going. Serious, straitlaced companies have their way of increasing productivity, this is ours. When the stress level gets high, we play, or when we’ve finally gotten that client’s website “just right”, we reward ourselves. We’re all pretty childlike, so offering us the dessert after we eat our vegetables seems to work pretty well. Work then play. And more importantly, if you ever want to come over and play a round or two, you’re more than welcome. As long as you promise to check off the “plays well with others” box on our report card.

The internet has proved itself yet again to be the most interesting creature we are yet to encounter. Surfing through cyberspace for quite some time have been all sorts of unique groups and characters, however none seem to step up to the place like these guys have.

Anonymous, as they call themselves, are a ghost-like group/person/nobodyreallyknows who have taken it upon themselves to expose corruption and injustice in those who are in elected or appointed positions of power. For instance, Anonymous has deemed today the beginning of their #F***FBIFriday campaign, via their very popular Twitter account.

Today, Anonymous have already accomplished a fair few things. They have hacked the Boston Police Department’s website, which has now been taken down until further notice; they have hacked Homeland Security’s website; they have hacked, recorded, and made publicly available, an FBI/Scotland Yard conference call, and these aren’t even the most drastic of events to take place.

The main course of action that Anonymous have taken and successfully accomplished today is their public release of over 3GB of e-mails and evidence used in a case against Marine Sgt. Frank Wuterich, who was the leader of an assault on 24 unarmed Iraqis in 2005, who’s punishment was a reduction of rank, a pay cut and no jail time. In conjunction with this exposure of information, Anonymous also left a lengthy letter explaining more about their cause and motives on the Boston PD’s home page, which ended with the taunting line “Do you really want to step to this??”, presumably directed at the authorities who are attempting to stop future Anonymous incidents from occurring. The full letter can be read here:

http://mashable.com/2012/02/03/anonymous-marine-emails/

What do you think? Are Anonymous the modern “Robin Hood” organization they are proclaimed to be? Is this digital warfare going too far? Join the conversation and share your thoughts with us on Twitter.

I know. I know. I know, I know. The title really does explain it-right? Who hasn’t been guilty of neglect? Neglecting their own marketing? For god sakes I am a marketing company. I sell marketing, I market. Marketing. And I am guilty of not marketing. So please. Don’t feel bad. We aren’t all super-dee-duper-heroes. We all fall prey to “life”. LIFE. BUSINESS. BUSY. WORKING FOR YOURSELF. And, yeah those are Cory caps. Anyway, I have been going over my ‘To-Do’ list and I’ve noticed a consistency lately. A trend. At the very end of my daily list – in regular 11pt text, are the words; ‘Update Atomic Portfolio’. Yeah. Nope. Haven’t done it. It never gets the old strike through. In fact, I even deleted our FB page with a plan of starting fresh for 2012 and I haven’t even been able to do that. I think we have 0 for ‘likes’. Oops.

Is that a good thing? I mean we are marketing for all of our clients. We’re out there. We’re still learning and growing, but we definitely are not practicing what we are preaching in this area, for ourselves. Guilty. As.Charged. SEO. Yes we are. SEM? Don’t even have to – I mean, really, check out those organic listings! Social? Not at all for A55. Weak. EV? Yes. 100%. But take this blog-fession as my personal admittance that we can be (and will be) doing better with our social media presence for Atomic.

In house, we have a dedicated team of 3 (next week to be 4), where all we are doing is content creation, campaign creation, original content creation, syndication and overall publicity pumping. Selfishly, (maybe) I have added Atomic into that regular rotation of clients.

Atomic is socially aware. And for 2012. We are about to prove it. Like a…(fill in the blank) We are officially here to socially annoy you

You’ve heard about how social media is becoming a huge marketing tool and how if you’re a company and don’t get into it then you’re falling behind etc etc. We won’t write another blog about that because frankly, this isn’t that kind of blog, if you’re smart enough to read this you’re smart enough to know what the marketing environment is like now. What we would like to let you privileged readers know is how its affecting us, because that’s all that matters, right? Thought so. Yes, social media has coerced us into making some <del>changes</del> upgrades. We’re not sure if you’re aware or not but Atomic has grown to have it’s own social media department of sorts. One person taking care of all the social media outlets just wasn’t cutting it, especially when we started doing it for clients. So if you haven’t gotten into it because you have the social media competency of a three-year-old, don’t have the time, or would just rather have a pro manage it then yep, we’ve added that to the list of “Absolutely, we’ll do that for you!”

This brings us to our next subject – this blog. Obviously all our efforts have been going full force for our clients so this blog was an outlet for occasional steamy outrages, office updates, or reviews of stuff we <del>hate</del> love. But now we figure we should lead by example. That’s right, regular weekly postings you lucky ducklings! So when you feel like the internet can’t offer you any more procrastination tools, we’ll have some delightful reading material lined up for you (with some helpful tips so you’re not completely wasting your time). We figure for some consistency we’ll offer you weekly blog specials… App-dates and the ‘Failure of the Week’, best you stay tuned because audience participation is all part of the fun, yes f-u-n.

Oh yes, it’s gonna be a good year.

Feel free to send all questions, comments, suggestions, nonsensical drivel to social@atomic55.net, or our Twitter page.

When you look at purchasing SEO services, you need to look at something more that the conventional than what the …

When you look at purchasing SEO services, you need to look at something more that the conventional than what the normally SEO software would do. Normal SEO software typically will search out the first site which is ranked highest in the Google search results. This site will normally have the highest page rank for a particular keyword. Find out what this site does to achieve such a page rank and do exactly the same but with a little modification. Soon this site is ousted from its number 1 position and your site would be number one.

Now this seems like a fine strategy but you should also consider how long your site is going to be number one. The truth is, when you use such a method, your site would only remain in the number one positions for a while or more accurately till the next person uses the SEO software to better you and move you form the number one spot. Also these methods of SEO do not comply with Google’s natural rankings and hence once in a while when Google does it’s clean up, your site would be automatically demoted. Worst even, your site can be also blacklisted. If such is the case then you have to go about renaming your site and go through a whole of trouble. A better option is to always make sure that you have achieved your rankings the right way so that you can at a solid rank whatever your rank is. Therefore what you need out of our SEO is not a good page rank but solid quality of marketing so that you automatically can develop a good page rank.

There are many ways that you can make your SEO work for you. It is essential that you have the right back links for your SEO. If you have the right kind of back links from sites that have a high page rank then your site will also get an increase in the number of people visiting your website. This will automatically increase your page rank. The next most important factor to remember is the keywords that you use. When you use the right keywords, you will attract the right kind of customers to your website. This means you need to keep telling your visitors what they can expect from your website and also the web bots what they can expect from your website. This way you will have the right page rank for your website.

The next and the most important factor in your SEO process is the content that you post.
