Books or Websites for Web design?
Finding solid books on website design is forever a challenge. There is abundance of classy, thick reference books for web developers, but books could be a bit dishonest as well.
The Web, in contrast, tends to avoid these drawbacks: the content is not only free, but also stands a much improved chance of being up to date. Thus it remains always on the lookout for great and instructional sites. It's well-organized and covers everything from straight HTML to ASP. Students can refer such website and in fact some have also found it to be an actually good reference, even as they become more adept, but it's rather easy to follow for the beginner.
